Following a disappointing opener to their NPFL campaign, Enugu Rangers captain Chinemerem Ugwueze has expressed his frustration after their poor outing against El-Kanemi Warriors over the weekend.
No goals were scored at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium in Enugu, where defending champions Rangers International FC hosted El-Kanemi Warriors, Footballrover reports.
The Rangers captain admitted that the players failed to deliver in their opening fixture of the 2024-25 Nigeria Premier Football League season.
The Flying Antelopes were held to a goalless draw in front of their home fans on Saturday by a team that actually vowed to snatch a point from them.
Speaking to the NPFL website, Ugwueze stated that it was a bad day at the office for him and his teammates.
He pointed out that the outcome of the matchday one fixture wasn’t what the Coal City club had anticipated.
“The result wasn’t what we were expecting. I believe we are better than this, but our plans didn’t go as mapped out,” he said.
The draw leaves the Enugu Boys with just one point from their first match of the season, while El-Kanemi Warriors also picked up a point.
Both teams will be aiming to improve their performances in the coming weeks as they seek to challenge for the NPFL title.
