At the Samson Siasia stadium in Yenagoa, Rivers United completely failed to snatch all three points over Bayelsa United in their rescheduled Nigeria Premier Football League matchday 7 clash.
The Port Harcourt outfit came into this game in pursuit of a crucial three points in an effort to bounce back from their recent defeat away from home vs NPFL newcomers – Doma United.
While the hosts also came into the contest hoping to earn their first three points after a dismal run of five games that included two losses and three draws.
Rivers United got things going quickly and had the first opportunity to take the lead less than a minute into the match, but Ifeanyi Francis missed the target after Joseph Onoja crossed from a corner kick.
Both teams continued to battle it out for the first goal, with the home team nearly scoring twice, but shots from Mohammad Shiraz and Daniel Ekpo failed to test Rivers United goalie Sochima Victor.
The Stanley Eguma side eventually made a swift recovery to find the back of the net.
It took the visiting Rivers United 35 minutes to take the lead, after Chiamaka Madu masterfully completed a team-oriented effort with Joseph Onoja’s help.
The Pride of Rivers led 1-0 at the end of the first half and jumped right into the second with the same enthusiasm only to find the scoreline leveled.

Barely six minutes into the second half, the home team equalized through Daniel Ekpo, who made it 1-1
66 minutes on the clock, Mark Gibson Theo and Malachi Ohawume teamed up superbly to hand Rivers United the lead yet again.
The 22-year-old forward calmly completed the move he initiated to give the visiting team a 2-1 lead.
However, a late effort from Robert Mizo saw Bayelsa United settle for a 2-2 draw against their oil rich neighbours – Rivers United.
