Chidiebube Gideon, the former Rivers United left-wing-back known as Ebube Duru, is on the verge of making a significant move away from Nigerian League to Europe.
Currently without a club after his contract with Rivers United expired, Duru is now in advanced negotiations with a European team, as revealed by his agent, Aljosa Alibegovic.
Alibegovic revealed that negotiations are underway for Duru to join a club as a free agent. He added that the defender is diligently working with a personal trainer in preparation for this exciting move in an exclusive interview with Daily Post.
Duru’s football journey in Nigeria has been marked by numerous successes.
He played a pivotal role in Lobi Stars’ triumphant run to the Nigerian League in 2018, which subsequently led to their participation in the prestigious CAF Champions League group stage.
He also contributed to the Pride of Rivers’ NPFL title victory in 2022.
At just 24 years old, Duru’s exceptional talent was recognized when he earned a spot in the Nigeria Premier Football League’s Team of the Season last year.
This achievement marked his status as one of the league’s standout players. Duru’s international career also shows promise.
He made his senior national team debut for the CHAN Eagles in 2019 against Togo and later received a call-up to represent the Super Eagles in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Sierra Leone, where Nigeria secured a thrilling 3-2 away victory.
With aspirations reaching for the skies, the one-cap Super Eagles defender is now set for a new chapter in his career beyond the borders of Nigeria.
His move abroad holds the potential to elevate his skills and bring him closer to fulfilling his long-held dream of playing for illustrious clubs like Real Madrid.
Before leaving the NPFL, the former Rivers United star Ebube Duru left an incredible mark as one of the league’s highest-scoring defenders and a specialist in free-kick taking, leaving fans eager to see how he’ll continue to shine outside the country.
