SWAN to Finidi George: Justify Your Appointment, Lead Super Eagles to Glory

The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) has congratulated the new head coach of Nigeria’s senior men’s football team, the Super Eagles, Finidi George.

This was part of a 22-point communiqué issued today by the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) at the end of its 2024 Full Council Meeting, tagged “KANO 2024,” which was held from May 1–May 3, 2024, at the Golden Luxury Hotel, Kano, Kano State, Footballrover reports.

The Association charged the new coach “to justify the confidence reposed in him” and also charged the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) “to provide the necessary enabling environment for the new Super Eagles coach to succeed on his new task.”

The  Council also “applauded the performance of Nigerian athletes at the recently held 13th African Games in Ghana and urged the Ministry of Sports and Nigeria Olympic Committee to intensify preparations for the Paris Olympics.”

The Council further “called on the Sports Ministry to collaborate more with SWAN and requested the allocation of additional slots for its members at international sports competitions.

The Council ratified the indefinite suspension of three( 3) members of the National Executive Council (NEC) of SWAN.

The three suspended NEC members are Bonny Nyong (Deputy President), Azuka Chiemeka (Vice President, South-South), and Ijeoma Peter-Nwante (Financial Secretary).

Also, three (3) appointees appointed by the President/NEC of the association were also relieved of their various positions.

The three suspended President/NEC appointees are Frankie Omonkhua (VP, South-East), Olalekan Ige (Deputy Secretary-General), and Mansur Mohammed (VP, North-West).
