In a heartfelt goodbye message, new Super Eagles coach Finidi George has bid an emotional farewell to his former team Enyimba, admitting he’s happy to be leaving.
Finidi expressed gratitude for the platform to display his coaching skills, Footballrover reports.
After a successful three-year stint, the 53-year-old tactician is moving on to his new role as Super Eagles coach, a bigger opportunity he believes was ordained by God.
Finidi reflected on his time at Enyimba, acknowledging the challenges of his first season but praising the team’s improvement in the second.
He explained that while he had initially applied for a lesser role, God had presented him with a bigger opportunity.
He revealed that he had applied for the U-17 position twice but remained patient when he wasn’t selected.
He then stated that joining Enyimba was his decision, but ultimately, God’s plan had led him to the Super Eagles job.
The former Enyimba coach claimed that his first season at the Aba-based team was difficult due to challenges, but the second season was better, and he expressed hope that this season would be even better than the last for the team.
“It’s quite unfortunate that I won’t finish this season with Enyimba; I would have loved to, but that isn’t possible at this point in time,” he said.
Finidi expressed his gratitude to everyone at Enyimba, referring to the club as a family.
He said that while he would be leaving, he wouldn’t forget them and planned to return to Aba soon to watch Enyimba play.
Finidi explained that his new duty was to build a team with both foreign and home-based players.
The new Super Eagles coach said that it was quite emotional for him because he had come to the team with his son, but his son had left after a year as it hadn’t been easy for him.
However, he (the coach) had known what he was looking for, which was to prove himself there.
“I’m happy and, at the same time, sad that I am leaving Enyimba,” Finidi said.
He concluded by expressing his gratitude for everyone’s support.
He acknowledged the challenges he faced but emphasised that his time at Enyimba had prepared him for bigger opportunities, adding that Aba was a demanding coaching environment.
