Nigerian striker Anthony Nwakaeme contributed yet another assist as Al-Fayha snatched an important victory over their opponent, Al-Ettifaq, in the Saudi Pro League on Friday evening.
Tony Nwakaeme assisted the winning goal late into the game as Al Fayha earned a hard-fought 2-1 away league win, Footballrover reports.
The game started promisingly for Al-Fayha, but both sides failed to make their chances pay as it ended goalless heading into the interval.
However, it took Fashion Sakala 27 minutes into the second period of the game to find the breakthrough, handing the visitors the lead.
Both sides kept pushing, and barely nine minutes later, the home team levelled the score as Moussa Dembele easily restored parity for his side.
Before Fashion Sakala once again combined beautifully with Tony Nwakaeme to score the winning goal, handing the visitors a well-deserved three points five minutes before stoppage time.
Nwakaeme has now contributed well over five assists in 17 matches in the 2023–2024 Saudi Pro League season, in addition to scoring four goals for his team.
His last goal contribution was on April 19, when the 35-year-old forward failed to inspire Al-Fayha to victory despite his assist in the heartbreaking 3-1 defeat at Al-Nassr.
With this narrow away win, Al-Fayha moves to 8th place on the table with 41 points, level on points with their hosts placed in 7th, while they trail table-toppers Al-Hilal by 42 points.
Up next for Tony Nwakaeme and his teammates is a home clash with Al-Fateh at the King Salman Sport City Stadium on Thursday.
