In the recent Saudi Super Cup clash on Monday evening, former Super Eagles star Odion Ighalo contributed an assist, delivering a stellar performance for Al-Wehda despite their narrow loss to Al-Ittihad.
Ighalo’s standout moment came with an assist to Hussain Ahmed Al Eisa for a late goal, but unfortunately, it wasn’t enough to turn the tide as his team fell 2-1 in the semi-final at the Al Nahyan Stadium, Footballrover reports.
This marked Ighalo’s debut assist in the competition, complementing his impressive record of over 12 goals in the Saudi Pro League.
During the intense 90-minute game, he created five scoring opportunities, displaying his strength on the field.
Despite his efforts, Al-Wehda couldn’t secure a spot in the final.
The match kicked off with a stunning early goal by Real Madrid legend Karim Benzema for Al-Ittihad, setting the tone for the game.
Abderrazak Hamdallah added to the home team’s lead before halftime, leaving Al-Wehda trailing.
Although Ighalo’s assist led to a consolation goal in extra time, it wasn’t enough to turn the tide.
Al-Wehda now faces a challenge, having not secured a win in their past two outings.
With their focus shifting to the league, where they currently hold the 12th spot in the Saudi Pro League standings, they prepare to take on Al-Ettifaq in their next fixture on Saturday, aiming to bounce back from their recent setback.
