Victor Osimhen was back in the spotlight with another assist, but his contribution was not enough as Galatasaray suffered a heavy 4–1 defeat to Samsunspor.
The Super Eagles striker created the opening goal of the match, but his side squandered the lead and collapsed in a disappointing outing at the Samsun Yeni 19 Mayis Stadium in their Matchday 32 clash, Footballrover reports.
Osimhen Assist Not Enough as Galatasaray Collapse
Galatasaray’s defeat came despite Victor Osimhen continuing his impressive form, taking his league tally to five assists in 21 appearances.
The Nigerian striker also has 13 league goals, pushing his overall season tally to 20 goals.
Across all competitions, he has now registered seven goals and one assist in the UEFA Champions League, bringing his total goal involvements to 26 this season.
It was, however, a difficult night for the league leaders, who conceded four goals and finished the match with a red card, compounding a frustrating performance in Samsun.
Fast Start from Osimhen Assist, but Samsunspor Fight Back
The defending champions began brightly and took the lead in the 9th minute. Yunus Akgün showed great awareness, spotting the goalkeeper off his line and finishing calmly after being set up by Osimhen’s assist.
Samsunspor responded strongly and equalised in the 22nd minute through Marius, who struck a low powerful shot into the bottom corner after finding space in the box.
After the break, the home side completed their comeback. In the 57th minute, Cherif Ndiaye produced a fine finish, cutting inside his marker before curling the ball into the top corner to make it 2–1.
Galatasaray’s challenge worsened in the 63rd minute when goalkeeper Günay Güvenç was shown a straight red card, leaving the visitors with ten men.
Samsunspor took full advantage of the numerical superiority. In the 71st minute, Marius scored his second of the game, finishing neatly from a Yalçın Kayan pass after a brief VAR check confirmed the goal.
The final blow came in the 82nd minute when Cherif Ndiaye reacted quickest to a rebound inside the box to complete his brace and seal a convincing 4–1 win.
The result marks Galatasaray’s heaviest league defeat of the season and their fourth loss overall.
Despite the setback, Osimhen and his teammates remain top of the table with a four-point lead, though the defeat adds pressure in the title race.
