Former Super Eagles star Odion Ighalo has finally broken his three-month goal drought with a stunning brace that helped Al Wehda secure a 2-1 victory over Al Khaleej in the Saudi Arabian top division on Friday.
Ighalo’s Goals Seal the Win
The 34-year-old Nigerian forward stole the show at the Prince Mohamed bin Fahd Stadium, scoring in the 27th minute and again in the 82nd minute from the penalty spot, Footballrover reports.
His goals proved to be the difference-maker, as Al Wehda held on to seal the three points.
A Dominant Performance
The ex-Watford star was in action for over 89 minutes, registering more than five shots, with two hitting the target.
His breakthrough goal in the 27th minute gave the visitors a slim advantage heading into the interval.
Al-Khaleej’s Equaliser and Red Card
Al-Khaleej equalised 21 minutes into the second half when Egyptian star Mohamed Sherif scored, cancelling out Ighalo’s goal.
However, the home side’s joy was short-lived, as Naif Masoud received a red card for a dangerous tackle in his 18-yard box, reducing his side to ten men and handing the visitors a penalty.
Ighalo’s Winning Goal
Ighalo stepped up in the 82nd minute to convert from the spot kick, and his goal proved to be the winning goal.
With his two goals against Al Khaleej, he currently has 14 goals in 29 Saudi Pro League games.
Al Wehda Ends Winless Streak
Following the victory, Al Wehda ended their run of five games without a win, which had consisted of three draws and two losses.
Ighalo’s impressive performance was instrumental in securing the three points for his team.
