Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martínez has added to his unwanted record of scoring an own goal in the Premier League when his side faced Jurgen Klopp and his Liverpool army.
His latest mishap came on Monday night at Villa Park, where he scored an own goal just 61 seconds into the game against Liverpool, Footballrover reports.
According to OptaJoe, this unfortunate feat marks the earliest own goal scored in a Premier League game since April 2014, when Antolin Alcaraz achieved the same dubious distinction for Everton against Southampton.
Martínez’s own goal set the tone for a dramatic night for Aston Villa, who went from losing 3-1 against Liverpool to grabbing a 3-3 draw.

Liverpool capitalised on a comedic mistake by Emiliano Martinez, who scored his own goal early on, giving them a fortunate lead.
This mistake brings Martínez’s total own goals in the Premier League to three, the most of any goalkeeper in the competition’s history.
However, they allowed Aston Villa to equalise when Alexis MacAllister’s errant pass led to Youri Tielemans scoring from Ollie Watkins’ assist.
The Reds managed to regain a two-goal advantage through Cody Gakpo’s easy finish and Jarell Quansah’s headed goal.
But then, two goals from super-sub Jhon Duran rescued Emiliano Martínez from his mess. The 20-year-old Colombian forward came off the bench for Aston Villa to score two huge goals.

Jhon Durán’s late brace was crucial as Villa fought back for what is likely to be an important point in the race for Champion League spot.
