Moses Aduku, coach of Edo Queens, has sparked a heated controversy in the Nigeria Women Football League Super Six playoffs after criticising the centre referee following his team’s 2-1 defeat to Rivers Angels.
The Edo Queens coach was visibly frustrated with the referee’s decisions throughout the game, which he believes cost his team the match, Footballrover reports.
Aduku vehemently criticised the officiating, labelling the referee as “shaky” and “afraid.”
This outburst came as a surprise, given Edo Queens’ impressive start to the Super Six campaign, where they thrashed Confluence Queens 5-1 in the opening fixture.

However, their hopes of consolidating their success with consecutive wins were dashed by the Jewels of Rivers.
Despite their high-scoring reputation, the Benin Ladies were knocked down by their counterparts from Rivers at the Samson Siasia Stadium on Monday afternoon.
Rivers Angels quickly established their dominance when Florence Alexander fired them ahead barely 10 minutes into the game.
An own-goal by Valentina Uroko saw the Rivers Ladies take a two-goal advantage in the 30th minute, but Edo Queens quickly pulled one back through Emem Essien just two minutes later.
The second half was uneventful, with Rivers Angels earning their first win and bragging rights over their South-South rivals.

When asked about his general impression of the match during his press conference, Coach Aduku lamented,
“Bad officiating, that’s the truth. The referee is not competent. I don’t complain about referees, but why would they bring this kind to the Super Six? She’s shaky; she’s afraid, and I don’t know why.”
Looking ahead to their next game, Aduku declared,
“We are coming all out to win. The tournament is not over yet.”
