Rivers Angels quickly established their dominance, with Florence Alexander firing them ahead barely 10 minutes into the game.
An own-goal by Valentina Uroko saw the Rivers Ladies take a two-goal advantage in the 30th minute, but Edo Queens quickly pulled one back through Emem Essien barely two minutes later.
The second period of the game had nothing much to talk about, with Rivers Angels earning vital points over their South-South rivals.
Speaking after the game, Coach Ogbonda Whyte praised his team’s performance, admitting that no team in the Super Six is a pushover.
“There is no match that’s easy; no team here is a workover because all of them qualified for this Super Six from their various zones.”
He admitted that Edo Queens gave them a tough outing, saying,
“They gave us a good fight, but I know their medicine and I know how to cure them.”
Coach Whyte acknowledged the high expectations from fans and the Rivers State government, assuring that the team is motivated to deliver.
“The team spirit is very high, thanks to the support from the Hon. Commissioner of Sports, Barr. Chris Green, and the state government. We are ready to go into the next match to ensure we get the three points at stake too.”
Looking ahead to their next game, Coach Whyte said,
“We’ll take the matches as they come, and our target is to make sure we get our three points.”
