Coach Akinade Onigbinde and his team succumbed to 2-0 defeat against Rivers United in their Nigeria Premier Football League rescheduled matchday 16 contest at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium.
The Doma United coach disclosed to the media after the game that his team traveled down to Port Harcourt hoping to pick up a point but ultimately came away with a poor outcome.
“Its a very bad result for us, because we came down here to pick a point but this is a very bad result for us.” – he said.
The Savannah Tigers were having a hard time getting into the game, and it only took the home team 19 minutes to be rewarded for their superior play.
Joseph Onoja found Nyima Nwagua in a pocket of space and the forward quickly squeezed in his fifth goal of the season with his weaker foot into the top corner.
Doma United kept on having trouble keeping the defending champions at bay, and Saifullahi Yusuf came closest to scoring, but Sochima Victor reached out to stop him.
Morice Chukwu came within a whisker of giving Rivers United a two-goal lead with a spectacular kick, but rather, it was Albert Korvah, who had been set up by Nyima Nwagua, that grabbed the second goal.
The winger made no mistakes by skillfully firing his effort past Osayi moments later from a tight angle.

The second goal crushed the visitors’ and their supporters’ spirits after they had come looking for a point to guarantee their place in the Super Six but missed their few opportunities.
“As you can see, we lost the game in the first half but came out second half better. The issue there is that we made one or two mistakes but after talking to them [Players], the game balanced.” – Coach Akinade said.
Speaking about the significance of the outcome in Port Harcourt for his side before their final game of the campaign against the Abia Warriors, the coach stated;
“We are in danger zone but its doesn’t mean, we still have one match left. If we can go there and pick a surprise, anything can happen in football.”
