Super Falcons midfielder Deborah Abiodun has made an exciting move by signing with the Washington Spirit on a deal running through 2027, with an option for an additional year.

This major signing reveals the Washington’s commitment to building a strong 2025 rookie class as they continue to strengthen their squad, Footballrover reports.

The NWSL team revealed that Abiodun agreed to a three-year deal with the club, which includes an option for 2028, and will take up an international slot on the roster.

Deborah Abiodun joins the Washington Spirit after two impressive seasons at the University of Pittsburgh, where she was a standout performer for the Panthers.

In 34 appearances, the Nigerian midfielder scored 10 goals and provided 3 assists, earning recognition on the All-ACC teams in both seasons.

Her outstanding contributions led to her inclusion in the 2023 Freshman and Third teams, as well as the 2024 Second Team All-ACC honours.

Despite facing injury challenges during her second season in 2024, Abiodun started nine out of the 12 games she appeared in.

She joined Pitt under the guidance of head coach Randy Waldrum, who also coached the Nigeria women’s national team.

On the international stage, Abiodun boasts significant experience with the Super Falcons, being named to the team’s World Cup roster in 2023 and the Olympic roster in 2024.

This marks a crucial moment in her career as she makes the transition to the NWSL, joining Asisat Oshoala, who plays for Bay FC.
