Fresh off an unforgettable campaign with Nigeria’s Super Falcons at WAFCON 2024, Esther Okoronkwo has wasted no time making her mark back at club level.

Just days after returning from international duty, the 28-year-old forward delivered a moment of magic to help AFC Toronto secure a 2-1 victory over title rivals Montreal Roses FC in the Northern Super League, Footballrover reports.
Esther Okoronkwo: From WAFCON Champion to Club Hero
Okoronkwo, who was instrumental in Nigeria’s unbeaten run to the WAFCON crown last month — registering six assists and two goals — showed the same creativity and precision that lit up the continental tournament.

Playing at Stade Boreale on Saturday, AFC Toronto took the lead in the 24th minute when Nikayla Small slotted home after Sarah Stratigakis’ perfectly timed through ball.
In the 37th minute, Okoronkwo turned provider once again this season, setting up Kaylee Hunter for a thunderous strike from outside the box — Hunter’s ninth goal of the campaign.
The assist marked Okoronkwo’s fourth in 11 NSL appearances, adding to her four goals this season.
The Winning Touch Against Montreal
Montreal pulled one back through Stephanie Hill in first-half stoppage time, but Toronto held firm to claim all three points and extend their lead at the top of the table to six points.

Okoronkwo’s eight direct goal contributions in just 11 league matches mirror the form that made her indispensable to the Super Falcons during WAFCON 2024.
From her calm, high-pressure penalty in the WAFCON final to her decisive playmaking in the NSL, Okoronkwo continues to prove she’s a difference-maker at every level.
With AFC Toronto and Montreal set to meet again in the regular-season finale on October 18, Okoronkwo’s form could be crucial in securing the club’s first-ever Northern Super League title.
