Recall that the 28-year-old did not travel to the Africa Cup of Nations 2021 with his national team, opting to stay at Chelsea rather.

After being snubbed at the AFCON 2021, Ziyech said he will not come back to the Morocco squad and announced his retirement.

And today, speaking to the media via Zach Lowy in Abu Dhabi, he has announced his retirement from national service.

Obviously I understand them but I will not return to the national team. It’s my final decision. It’s all clear for me how things are going over there, it’s all clear for me,” Ziyech said.

The forward added;

I’m focusing on what I’m doing, and that’s my club. At the end of the day it’s a decision he (the manager) makes. You have to respect it but if all the lying comes with it, it’s clear for me. I will not return to the national team. I understand (the fans upset), I feel sorry for them.”

Due to his complicated relationship with Vahid Halilhodzic, the Blues’ attacker was left out of his country’s team, having not featured since June 2021.

Meanwhile, the Moroccan has been in excellent form for the Thomas Tuchel side this month, collecting the club’s Goal of the Month title for his goal against Spurs.
