Taiwo Awoniyi’s remarkable scoring streak has finally met its match, following a challenging Premier League encounter at Stamford Bridge on a Saturday afternoon.
Despite dominating much of the match and successfully preventing Awoniyi from securing his 8th consecutive Premier League goal, Pochettino’s side faltered within Nottingham Forest’s 18-yard box, leading to their defeat.
The hero of the day was Elanga, whose goal a mere three minutes into the second half proved pivotal for Steve Corper’s team, securing a narrow victory over Chelsea.
Awoniyi’s stats leading up to the clash:
Before facing Chelsea, the Nigerian international had been consistently finding the back of the net for Forest, netting goals against Arsenal, Sheffield United, and Man United.
The Super Eagles star entered the game at the Bridge with hopes of notching his 8th consecutive league goal but was limited to just two shots and an assist.
Despite this, it wasn’t a dismal performance for the 26-year-old forward, as he managed to provide an assist for the only goal of the game before being substituted in the 68th minute for Wood.
Awoniyi seized the ball after a collision between Caicedo and Gallagher in midfield, skillfully evaded a couple of challenges, and set up Elanga in the area.

The substitute remained composed, slotting the ball past Sanchez into the bottom-right corner, leaving Chelsea trailing 1-0 throughout the match on their home turf.
His assist propelled Nottingham Forest to secure their first victory at Stamford Bridge in nearly three decades, handing Chelsea their second Premier League defeat of the season.
With three goals and one assist in just four Premier League games this season, Taiwo Awoniyi is making quite an impact.
