Rwandan giants APR FC are on the verge of pulling off yet another major transfer coup, with reports suggesting they are close to signing Nigerian winger Godwin Odibo from Sporting Lagos.
This move comes as a surprise, as Odibo was previously linked to a switch to Nigerian giants Enyimba, Footballrover reports.
Odibo arrived in Kigali, Rwanda, on Tuesday to finalise negotiations with APR FC.
Sources close to Footballrover indicate that the deal is nearing completion, with the 27-year-old expected to undergo a medical before signing on the dotted line.
The desire for continental football appears to have swayed Odibo’s decision.
While Enyimba offered participation in the CAF Confederation Cup, APR FC’s presence in the prestigious CAF Champions League proved too tempting to resist.
This transfer represents a huge step up for Odibo, who impressed with his performances for Sporting Lagos in the recently concluded NPFL season.
However, with the Lagos-based club suffering relegation, Odibo opted for a new challenge abroad.
Interestingly, APR FC already boasts a Nigerian connection in their squad with former Enyimba striker Victor Mbaoma.
Recall that Footballrover reported that they are also closing in on Enugu Rangers midfielder Chidiebere Nwobodo, further bolstering their squad with top Nigerian stars.
The arrival of Odibo is expected to significantly boost APR FC’s attacking line.
His pace and trickery will be crucial for their CAF Champions League campaign, where they will be aiming to make a deep run in the competition.
But then, the dramatic transfer twist will somehow leave Enyimba fans wondering what could have gone wrong.
