Rwandan league champions APR FC are on the verge of snatching Rangers International’s captain, Chidiebere Johnson Nwobodo, with both parties already finalising the transfer negotiations.
Mike ThePundit, a well-known figure in Nigerian football transfers, dropped the news yesterday evening.
The 20-year-old winger is reportedly already with the APR FC squad in Tanzania, where the club is competing in the CECAFA Kagame Cup, Footballrover reports.
Talks are at an advanced stage, with Nwobodo expected to sign a three-year contract.
This move comes after a stellar season for Enugu Rangers, who clinched their eighth Nigeria Premier League title.
Nwobodo, who was a key figure in the Rangers’ success, seems ready for a new challenge with APR FC.
Since joining the Flying Antelopes in July 2021 from Lamray United, Nwobodo has amassed an impressive record of over 16 goals and eight assists in just 101 NPFL appearances.
His talent was further recognised with a call-up to Nigeria’s second national team in their 2022 match against Costa Rica.
Nwobodo’s path follows that of Victor Mbaoma, another Nigerian forward who opted for the Rwandan Premier League and specifically, APR FC.
Before his departure, Mbaoma significantly contributed to Katsina United’s promotion to the NPFL, mirroring Nwobodo’s role in Rangers’ recent championship win.
The versatile player, comfortable on both the right and left wing, is expected to begin training with his new teammates upon finalising the deal.
He will join a growing contingent of foreign players at APR FC, including two Ghanaians, a Senegalese, a Mauritanian striker, and a Malian midfielder.
All eyes will be on Thursday as APR FC returns to the field in Kigali for the CECAFA Kagame Cup semi-finals against El Hilal of Sudan.
The Nigerian forward could potentially be handed his first game in this crucial match.
