Nigerian midfielder Obinna Nwobodo featured in the nail-biting MLS Matchday 24 fixture that saw FC Cincinnati suffer a narrow 1-0 home defeat to Chicago Fire.
Despite the disappointing result, midfielder Obinna Nwobodo put in a strong performance for the Orange and Blue at the TQL Stadium, Footballrover reports.
Nwobodo, who has made 20 appearances so far for the Knifey Lions, saw 87 minutes of action before being subbed out and replaced by Aaron Boupendza from Gabon.
During his time on the pitch, the 27-year-old made two crucial interceptions and won three duels, which shows a good defensive trait and work rate.
While Nwobodo’s performance was commendable, the Garys were unable to find an equaliser after conceding a goal 24 minutes into the second half.
The match’s only goal came in the second period of the game through 21-year-old attacking midfielder Brian Gutiérrez, leaving FC Cincinnati searching for answers.
Despite Nwobodo’s efforts, a red card for his Jamaican teammate Alvas Powell just two minutes before stoppage time left FC Cincinnati a man down, effectively dashing their hopes of salvaging a point.
Footballrover understands that yet another red card was issued to a Cincinnati player, this time to 43-year-old Pat Noonan, but it was off the pitch.
With this result, FC Cincinnati, now two points behind league leaders Inter Miami, will need to regroup and bounce back in their upcoming matches.
