Super Eagles forward Ademola Lookman made a stunning return to Atalanta’s starting lineup, netting twice in their emphatic 5-0 demolition of Empoli in Serie A on Sunday.

The Nigerian winger’s performance came just days after Atalanta’s Champions League disappointment, reigniting discussions about his relationship with head coach Gian Piero Gasperini, Footballrover reports.

Gasperini praises Ademola Lookman as an ‘extraordinary player’

Atalanta needed a response after their midweek setback, and Lookman delivered.

His clinical finishing helped Gasperini’s side reclaim momentum, leaving the 67-year-old coach pleased with both the team’s dominance and Lookman’s individual brilliance.

Gasperini acknowledged the significance of the victory, emphasising that it pushed Atalanta closer to the league’s top spots.

Reflecting on the club’s Champions League exit, he downplayed the disappointment, stressing that setbacks are part of the journey.

“It wasn’t easy, just like it wasn’t easy in Verona and Como. We were good.”
