Victor Osimhen injury blow: Galatasaray striker to be out for weeks

The Nigerian international, who has made an immediate impact since his move to Turkey, will be sidelined for the next few weeks, much to the disappointment of fans and the team, footballrover reports.

Osimhen, who had quickly sealed a spot as a key player in the team, scored twice in the Kasimpasa match before being forced off at halftime.

Subsequent medical examinations confirmed a significant strain in his left thigh, along with swelling, that will likely keep him out of action until mid-November.

Galatasaray’s attack hit by Osimhen’s injury

The injury comes at an unfortunate time for the Turkish club, as Osimhen was in excellent form, contributing both goals and assists in his short time on the field.

In four appearances across the Super Lig and Europa League, the striker racked up two goals and provided two crucial assists, quickly becoming an integral part of the squad.

With Osimhen’s absence, Galatasaray’s forward line will miss his physical presence and goal-scoring instinct.

The injury is a blow for a side that had been hoping to build momentum with the Nigerian’s dynamic performances leading their charge in domestic and European competitions.

This could also be a big blow for the Super Eagles, as Victor Osimhen is now a major doubt for the AFCON 2025 qualifier double header against Libya.

According to Galatasaray website,

The treatment of our football player Victor Osimhen, who felt pain in his upper left posterior muscle during the Kasımpaşa match in the seventh week of the Trendyol Super League and who was diagnosed with strain (strain and bleeding) in his upper left posterior muscle group during his check-ups at our sponsor hospital Medicana today, has been started.”

Mauro Icardi ready to step up

Despite the setback, Galatasaray can count on the return of Argentine striker Mauro Icardi, who has fully recovered from his own injury.

Icardi is expected to lead the line in Osimhen’s absence, starting with their upcoming Europa League clash against RFS Riga.

While the club will undoubtedly miss Osimhen’s contributions, Icardi’s presence offers hope that they can maintain their attacking threat until the Nigerian is fit to return.
