Victor Osimhen has opened up about his close bond with Mauro Icardi after their thrilling 3-3 draw against Kasımpaşa on matchday seven of the Turkish Süper Lig at RAMS Park, describing him as ‘big brother’ in Galatasaray.

Fresh from bagging a brace in the match, Osimhen took a moment to highlight the special connection he shares with his Galatasaray teammate, Icardi, praising the Argentine for his leadership on the pitch, Footballrover reports.

The Nigerian forward was in fine form, scoring twice in the first half to give the Lions a comfortable lead.

However, despite his display, Kasımpaşa staged a late comeback to share the spoils.

Osimhen’s goal contribution continues

Osimhen wasted no time making an impact, netting his first goal of the match in the 20th minute.

Latching onto a perfectly delivered cross from Abdulkerim Bardakci, the Super Eagles striker directed his effort beyond goalkeeper Andreas Gianniotis to give Galatasaray the early advantage.

Just eight minutes later, Osimhen doubled his tally with a thunderous shot from a Gabriel Sara pass.

This double brought his goal tally to four in just three Süper Lig games, matching a record set by Bafetimbi Gomis in 2017.

The moment came for ‘big brother’ to also prove himself.

Mauro Icardi went on to add to Galatasaray’s scoreline with a stunning volley, showing why Osimhen holds him in such high regard.

The two forwards celebrated their goals together, highlighting the camaraderie between them.

Despite the brilliant performance, Galatasaray couldn’t hold onto their lead as Kasımpaşa clawed their way back with three goals, including a dramatic stoppage-time equaliser from Nuno Da Costa.

Before the second half kicked off, Osimhen was forced to leave the field due to a suspected injury, with Dries Mertens stepping in.

After the match, Osimhen spoke about the influence of Icardi on and off the pitch.

“We have a good relationship with Mauro. He is a leader. He protects us all he is also a big brother to me. It is a great feeling for me to play next to him. Everyone must see that. We celebrate our goals together,” he said.

Though disappointed with the result, Osimhen was clear that the team is determined to bounce back.

“We are unhappy with today’s result but we will all do more. We will do better in the upcoming matches. It is a privilege to play with him,” he concluded
