Everton’s latest win in the Women’s Super League was fuelled by an incredible display from Super Falcons star Toni Payne, whose two assists helped power the Toffees to a commanding 4-1 win over Leicester City.
The 29-year-old midfielder’s creativity and precision were on full display, despite playing up front as a lone striker, Footballrover reports.
Toni Payne’s two assists inspire Everton’s dominance
Everton wasted no time imposing themselves at Walton Hall Park, with Kelly Gago breaking the deadlock just five minutes into the game.
However, Leicester City responded swiftly, as Shannon O’Brien levelled the score in the 15th minute, ensuring both teams went into halftime at 1-1.
The second half belonged to Payne. Just four minutes after the restart, she delivered a pinpoint assist to Katja Snoeijs, restoring Everton’s lead.
Her influence didn’t stop there—Payne later set up Gago for her second goal, sealing an emphatic victory for the hosts right after Hanoka Hayashi had already widened the lead in the 57th minute.
Payne’s impact: two assists and a complete performance
Beyond her two assists, Payne displayed an all-around brilliance. She created two big chances, completed 100% of her dribbles, made two recoveries, and delivered 15 accurate passes.
With nine touches inside the opposition box, she remained a constant attacking threat.
This latest performance extends Payne’s impressive form, as she has now recorded an assist in back-to-back outings for Everton.
Her season tally stands at four assists—one in the Women’s League Cup, one in the Women’s FA Cup, and two in the WSL.
With this victory, Everton climb to eighth in the league with 13 points from 13 games. Up next, they face Chelsea in the FA Cup before a crucial league encounter against the Blues Ladies.
