N’Golo Kante in action for Chelsea against Boreham Wood

Wondering why? Simply because the West London team fielded N’Golo Kante and Ruben Loftus-Cheek (who were left off Chelsea’s squad for their tour of the United States) during their friendly vs Boreham Wood.

The Blues defeated the National League team – Boreham Wood 4-2 in their preseason friendly on Friday night, with N’Golo Kante and Ruben Loftus-Cheek starting for the team.

Due to their Covid-19 vaccination status, the Chelsea midfielders remained in England for the Blues’ preseason tour as they were unable to travel to the United States.

Footballrover gathered that Kante and Loftus-Cheek won’t feature for the Blues against Club America, Charlotte FC, or Arsenal, but they will be able to play against Udinese on July 29 in Italy due to their Covid-19 vaccination status.

However, to improve their fitness, they will continue working with First Team teammates who were left off the squad and Under-23 players.

During the friendly at Meadow Park, players including Baba Rahman, Matt Miazga, and Dujon Sterling played for Chelsea.

Boreham Wood started the game on a good note with Tyrone Marsh grabbing the opener from the penalty spot before Leo Castledine scored just before halftime to tie the score.

Chelsea changed the game from there and quickly took the lead for the first time – off a deflected Jez Davies shot, and the youngster added his second goal with 73 minutes on the clock.
