After scoring a brace against Leicester City, Chelsea hero – Raheem Sterling has claimed that Reece James had vowed to provide him with a lot of scoring opportunities in the Premier League.
After Conor Gallagher was sent off for receiving two cautions, the 27-year-old scored his first goal for the Blues in the second half and later doubled his tally.
Taking the field against Leicester in Gallagher’s absence, the new Chelsea man fired his goal from the edge of the box, which deflected off Daniel Amartey and over Danny Ward.
16 minutes later, the England international added to Chelsea’s advantage by converting on a beautiful cross from Reece James.
π£ “Its priceless feeling to score in front of you all and get 3 huge points. Great performance from the boys. It was a difficult game and we knew it will be a game of few chances for us and we had to make it count. I tried to stay at the edge of the box, have a shot [for the first]. I had a bit of luck.” – Sterling said.
Although Harvey Barnes cut the deficit in half, Chelsea held on to win 2-1 with 10 men. The Blues earned their first victory at home this season, and Sterling left the field beaming after scoring two goals.
Raheem Sterling voiced out his excitement on scoring his first Chelsea goals – with a little help from Reece James for the second.
After the game, Sterling opened up to Sky Sports about the goals and said that James had pledged to set him up for many more goals this campaign.
“Reece told me he’d put one a plate for me. He’s been telling me so since i got here, but as i said, we knew it will be a game of few chances and we got two goals advantage and defended very well.” – Sterling said when asked if he appreciated Reece James for the assist.

Meanwhile, Chelsea’s head coach Thomas Tuchel praised Sterling in high regard after bringing him over from Manchester City.
Sterling, according to the German, demonstrated exactly why Chelsea chose to make him their top priority during the summer transfer window.
π£ “It was needed. We need him to score, itβs what he does and he will score. I could feel he wasnβt happy, he wants to score more and have more chances. So we played in a more aggressive shape in the first half for 25 minutes and then we are a man down, so we needed him to step up.” – Tuchel said.
The Chelsea gaffer stressed that;
π£ “He did and he did what he always does. He will score, Iβm convinced, and he will create chances. The goals were crucial today because they gave us belief and the boost that it was possible. They were responsible for the win.”
