Taiwo Lawal continues to shine in the Turkish Women’s Football Super League, scoring her third goal of the season as Atasehir Belediyespor faced a significant away defeat against Galatasaray.
In round 9 of the Turkey Super Lig Women, the Nigerian starlet found the net, but it couldn’t prevent Atasehir Belediyespor from suffering a 5-2 loss to Galatasaray, Footballrover reports
Lawal, the Nigerian forward, made her impact in the second half of the game, bringing her team back into contention after trailing by two goals at halftime.
Galatasaray took an early lead as Benan Altintas scored just 14 minutes into the game, and Mariem Houij doubled their advantage from a penalty 23 minutes later, leading to a 2-0 halftime lead for the hosts.
At the start of the second half, Atasehir Belediyespor showed determination, and the 19-year-old Nigerian forward scored to reduce the deficit at the Florya Metin Oktay Facilities.
However, Galatasaray quickly regained control with Ebru Topcu and Arzu Akkurt extending the lead to 4-1.
Although Grace Sofia scored for Atasehir Belediyespor in added time, Galatasaray’s Arzu Akkurt added another goal, securing a convincing victory.
This season has been a tough one for Taiwo Lawal and her teammates, as they are yet to win a league game.
Nevertheless, Taiwo Lawal expressed her joy on social media after scoring her third league goal of the season for Atasehir Belediyespor.
“My third goal of the season in Turkey against Galatasaray,” she wrote.
Despite Lawal’s efforts, her team remains at the bottom of the table with only one point after nine games, while their opponents, Galatasaray, are comfortably in third place with 23 points.
Looking forward, Taiwo Lawal aims to continue her scoring streak when Atasehir Belediyespor faces Amed SK away from home on Sunday.
