After officiating in the thrilling finale of this prestigious pre-season football competition, Folashade took to her social media platform to share her excitement, Footballrover reports

Folashade played a crucial role as one of the officials overseeing the 2023 Betsy Obaseki Women Football Tournament’s concluding match, where Edo Queens and Bayelsa Queens clashed in a battle for glory.

The journey to the finals was filled with intense moments. Edo Queens displayed their dominance with a resounding 3-0 victory over newcomers, Remo Stars of Ogun State, in the semi-finals.

This victory paved their way to the ultimate showdown against arch-rivals Bayelsa Queens.

In the other semi-final at the Uniben Sports Complex, Bayelsa Queens managed to secure a final spot by defeating Delta Queens 5-4 on penalties following a goalless draw in regulation time.

The climactic clash at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City resulted in Edo Queens emerging as champions.

They clinched the title by defeating Bayelsa Queens 4-3 in a thrilling penalty shootout after the regulation time had ended in a 1-1 draw.

The joyous moment was undoubtedly shared by the BOWFT champions. Edo Queens secured N7 million in prize money as the winners, while the second, third, and fourth-place teams received N5 million, N3 million, and N1.5 million, respectively.

However, the spotlight of this tournament extended beyond the players and teams.

NPFL referee Ekun Folashade expressed her profound gratitude for the privilege of officiating in the BOWFT final.

She specifically commended the Nigerian Referees Association and the tournament organizers for their efforts in uplifting the sport.

Folashade’s words,

Satisfying, elated, and a proud moment for me as I was privileged to officiate the Betsy Obaseki Women Football Tournament final at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin. I appreciate the NRA and the organizers for this upliftment.”

It’s crucial to recognize that the BOWFT is a visionary initiative driven by Mrs. Obaseki in collaboration with private sector partners.
