The narrow victory gives Galatasaray a valuable advantage ahead of the return leg at Anfield next week.

But Osimhen believes the tie is far from over and insists his team can still cause problems for Liverpool.

The match was decided early when Mario Lemina scored the only goal of the game.

The midfielder found the net in the opening minutes, glancing home from close range after Osimhen rose highest to meet a corner and direct the ball into the danger area.

That early breakthrough proved crucial in a match packed with chances.

Liverpool nearly responded immediately when Florian Wirtz fired wide just moments after Lemina misplaced a pass in midfield.

The German attacker later missed another opportunity following a move involving Mohamed Salah, Hugo Ekitike and Alexis Mac Allister.

Galatasaray also threatened again during the first half, with goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili producing excellent saves to deny Noa Lang and Davinson Sánchez.

Osimhen thought he had doubled Galatasaray’s lead later in the game, but the goal was ruled out after Barış Yılmaz was judged offside during the build-up.

Liverpool also had the ball in the net through a deflection involving Wilfried Singo, but the effort was disallowed after Ibrahima Konaté was penalised for handball from the corner that created the chance.

After the final whistle, Osimhen reflected on the win and the special bond he feels with the club’s supporters.

Before kickoff, the Nigerian striker appeared emotional after noticing a giant tifo created by supporters in honour of him and his family.

I’ve been very happy since I arrived wearing this jersey. This jersey is very special. I wanted to do my best for these fans. I’m experiencing completely different emotions here.

I lost my mother at a young age, and the fans made me very happy today. That’s why it’s so important to me. We are a family with the Galatasaray fans,” he told the club media.

Osimhen acknowledged that the work is only halfway done but praised his teammates for performing so well to gain a valuable advantage and believes they can trouble Liverpool at Anfield.

We did a very good job today. I think we can hurt Liverpool in the return match. We’ve done a good job so far,” he concluded.

Osimhen key again as Galatasaray eye historic result

Osimhen’s impact continues to grow in this season’s Champions League campaign.

The Super Eagles star now has seven goals in nine appearances in the competition and has been one of the tournament’s most influential performers.

He has now been involved in eight goals in the UEFA Champions League this season (7 goals, 1 assist), the highest ever by a Nigerian player in a single campaign.
