Nigerian forward Taiwo Abdulrahman wasted no time making his mark on the European stage, scoring the opening goal for FK Auda in their convincing 2-0 victory over B36 Tórshavn in the first leg of their Europa Conference League first qualifying round tie.
The 25-year-old’s strike set the tone for a dominant performance by the Latvian Higher League side at the Skonto Stadium on Wednesday evening, Footballrover reports.
FK Auda Returns to European Competition
This was FK Auda’s second appearance in the Europa Conference League, having competed in the competition’s first season the previous year after winning the Latvian Cup in 2022.
Their third-place finish in the Virslīga, Latvia’s top division, secured their qualification for this year’s qualifiers.
While last season’s performance was their best ever in the domestic league, Auda came into the match on the back of a four-game losing streak.
Their opponents, B36 Tórshavn, were also looking to turn their fortunes around in the competition.
Abdulrahman Breaks the Deadlock
FK Auda dominated the game early on, with Abdulrahman finding the back of the net barely 12 minutes in to put his side ahead.
The first half ended with the Latvian side holding a narrow lead.
Traore Secures Advantage for Auda
The second half saw Auda maintain control, finally adding a crucial second goal through Abdoul Kader Traore with five minutes remaining in regulation time.
This commanding 2-0 victory gives FK Auda a significant advantage heading into the second leg next Wednesday at Tórsvøllur Stadium in Tórshavn.
