Gift Orban has continued from where he left, displaying his goal-scoring prowess once again as he led KAA Gent to a resounding 5-1 victory over MSK AZilina in Europa Conference League second Qualifying round leg one on Thursday evening.
Coming off an impressive performance from the previous season, the 21-year-old Nigerian forward wasted no time in making an impact.
Barely 23 minutes into the game, the striker unleashed a powerful right-footed shot from the center of the box, finding the back of the net and handing the home team the lead.
The brilliant goal set the tone for what would become a commanding display by the Belgian Pro League side.
Despite dominating the first half and creating numerous chances, KAA Gent had only Orban’s goal to show for their efforts.
However, the team maintained their momentum and returned for the second half with high spirits, eager to extend their advantage.
Just ten minutes into the second half, Julien De Sart joined the goal-scoring party with an impressive right-footed shot, doubling Gent’s lead and increasing the pressure on the visiting Slovak First Football League side.
The onslaught continued in the 63rd minute when Hugo Cuypers found the back of the net, further cementing the Belgian side’s control over the match.
MSK AZilina’s woes deepened when Dominik Javorcek received his second yellow card, resulting in a red card, and reducing the Slovakian team to ten men.
Taking full advantage of the numerical superiority, Gent capitalized on the situation and scored their fourth goal just three minutes later, courtesy of Tsuyoshi Watanabe.
Despite being down to ten men, the visiting side managed to grab a consolation goal through Adrian Kapralik.
However, it was too little too late, as Hugo Cuypers, in tandem with Tarik Tissoudali, combined beautifully to add a fifth goal to Gent’s tally, sealing an emphatic 5-1 victory.
