Rivers United will commence their NPFL Championship playoff campaign against Sunshine Stars later today.

The team from Port Harcourt will face Sunshine Stars at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Lagos state for their first match of the 2022/23 NPFL Championship playoffs.

Stanley Eguma, the technical manager of Rivers United, has expressed optimism after the Super Six draws on June 2.

Despite that the NPFL Champions will be facing strong opponents, Eguma believes that with hard work, his team can accomplish their goals.

Speaking ahead of their opening match, Eguma acknowledged the immense pressure on his team as they were regarded as the “cynosure of all eyes” in the competition.

Stanley Eguma emphasized that his team will need to go beyond their limits as everyone aims to defeat them and claim the trophy.

Eguma expects a formidable challenge from their first opponent, Sunshine Stars, particularly because they have always been strong when playing against Rivers United.

The teams’ most recent encounter took place on May 15 at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium in Rivers State, where Rivers United secured a victory with an impressive long-range goal by Morice Chukwu.
