The Super Falcons of Nigeria, nine-time winners of the Women Afcon, have been placed in Group C of the competition, which will be held in Morocco.
The Falcons will face South Africa’s Banyana Banyana, Botswana, and Burundi in Group C of the 12th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, which runs from July 2 to 23.
At the last edition of the competition in Ghana, the Super Falcons and South Africa were in the same group, with the Banyana winning by the odd goal.
Both sides met in the final, which finished in a barren tie after regular and overtime.
The Super Falcons eventually won their 9th title, 4-3 on penalties.
Meanwhile, Morocco leads Group A, which includes Burkina Faso, Senegal, and Uganda, while Cameroon leads Group B, which includes Zambia, Tunisia, and Togo.
All four semifinalists will represent Africa at the maiden 32-team FIFA Women’s World Cup finals, which will be hosted by New Zealand and Australia in the summer of next year.
