Following a fantastic season with Chelsea Women, Sam Kerr has won the prestigious Football Writers’ Association Women’s Footballer of the Year title.
The announcement comes after a tremendous night for the Blues, who defeated Tottenham Hotspur 2-1 in their second encounter with their London rivals in less than five days yesterday evening.

During the game, Sam Kerr scored her 18th Barclays FA Women’s Super League goal of the season and her 28th overall.
Kerr continues to lead the WSL in goals with 18 in 18 games and four assists.
This comes on the heels of her sixth consecutive nomination for the FIFA Best Women’s Player award in November, as well as the Golden Boot she won last season.
The Australian has been nominated for the Barclays FA WSL Player of the Month award on several occasions, most notably in March after scoring five goals in five WSL games.
Not to mention Kerr’s 92nd-minute winner against Aston Villa in March, which ignited jubilation at Kingsmeadow and kept the Blues’ title aspirations alive.
