Feyenoord won the first leg of their UEFA Europa Conference League semi-final against Olympique Marseille thanks to a well-taken brace by Cyriel Dessers.

The Dutch elite division side went into the game with confidence, having gone undefeated in their last five matches in all competitions.

Dessers squandered a clear-cut chance to fire the hosts ahead after shooting a close-range drive over the bar, while Ofir Marciano thwarted Bamba Dieng on the other side in an enthralling start to the five-goal thriller.

Despite this, the Nigerian international made up for his previous miss by placing the Arne Slot’s side ahead, shooting past goalkeeper Steve Mandanda thanks to a back-heel assist from Luis Sinisterra.

Three minutes later, the French top flight team conceded their second goal when Sinisterra’s deflected shot was scooped up by Reiss Nelson and soared into the net.

In a goal-filled first half, Dieng cut the lead in half in the 28th minute, capitalizing on a ball from Cedric Bakambu to score his first goal in Europe.

Marseille equalized five minutes before halftime when Marciano could only push Matteo Guendouzi’s cross across the box into the path of Gerson, who smashed home.

Feyenoord seized the lead yet again just 10 seconds into the second half, when Dessers intercepted Duje Caleta-Car’s poor back-pass to net his second of the game.

With 10 goals in the competition already, the 27-year-old striker has already surpassed Tammy Abraham of AS Roma as the top goalscorer.

Dessers, who was named man of the match, had a chance to score a hat-trick a few minutes later, but Mandanda made a great stop at his near post to deny him.
