Four Super Eagles stars have openly snubbed current NPFL table leaders Rivers United and second-placed Remo Stars, opting to reveal their favorite clubs in the Nigeria Premier Football League instead.
Maduka Okoye, Alex Iwobi, Fisayo Dele-Bashiru, and Frank Onyeka, speaking at the media parley ahead of Nigeria’s AFCON qualifier against Libya on Friday, disclosed their preferred clubs in NPFL, Footballrover reports.
This revelation comes in the wake of the return of Super Eagles captain Ahmed Musa to the league.
Recall that Musa made headlines with his impressive two-goal performance for Kano Pillars in their 2-0 victory against Sunshine Stars.
And when asked about their favourite NPFL team, Okoye, who is currently plying his trade in Serie A, expressed a deep emotional connection to Enugu Rangers, citing the club as his father’s team and a source of pride for his family.
“If I were to play in the NPFL, Enugu Rangers would be my only choice,” he stated passionately, emphasising his roots and affinity for the Flying Antelopes.
Iwobi and Dele-Bashiru both indicated a desire to join Musa at Kano Pillars, displaying the team’s allure and prestige.
“I’ll follow Musa to Kano Pillars,” Iwobi affirmed, while Dele-Bashiru echoed the same thing but added that “Kano Pillars is the club I know best, so that’s where I’d prefer to play.”
Onyeka, on the other hand, showed his loyalty to Enyimba, Nigeria’s only CAF Champions League winners.
He noted that “Enyimba represents my state well, and I would love to play for them someday, though you never know what could happen in football.”
