Rivers United have added fresh firepower to their attack with the signing of Wisdom Samuel, a promising winger who believes he has joined the right club to achieve greatness.

After experiencing relegation with Heartland last season, Samuel is ready for a new chapter, and he has made his ambitions very clear—to help the Pride of Rivers conquer both the Nigeria Premier League and the CAF stage.

The winger, who has already joined United in two training sessions ahead of their Matchday 3 clash with El Kanemi Warriors in Maiduguri on Sunday, had an exclusive chat with Footballrover, where he revealed all these.

“Rivers United Is a Big Team; I Want to Achieve Everything”

When asked why he chose the move, Samuel made no attempt to hide his excitement.

— “Well, Rivers United is a big team; I don’t think anyone would reject an opportunity to play here. I want to achieve everything here, score goals, and get the league and also the continental; it’s very possible.”

Lessons from Heartland and the Road Ahead

The winger also reflected on his past experience with Heartland, where relegation taught him valuable lessons.

— “Just to always take every chance you see to grab points on the road, it’s very important.”

That determination now fuels his hunger at Rivers United, where he hopes to deliver both goals and assists for the Port Harcourt outfit.

Adaptation and First Impressions

Since arriving in PH City, Samuel says the atmosphere has been welcoming.

— “Well, like I said before, it’s a big club, and I’m happy being here. I was received well by the coaches and the players, so I’m happy.”

Ready to Fit into the Squad

With Rivers United pushing for league and CAF success, Samuel knows exactly what is expected of him.

— “I’m going to do what wingers do by God’s grace and more. Like I said, I want to score goals and assists; in this league, goals are very important.”

Handling Pressure with Motivation

Pressure is not something Samuel fears. Instead, he views it as an extra push.

— “The thing is, you can handle any pressure when you’re always ready. To me, pressure is motivation, and I plan to absorb it and use it as fuel to achieve greater things for the club.”

Wisdom Samuel’s Career Journey So Far

Samuel started off his career at Remo Stars before making a switch to Sporting Lagos. He then moved to Giant Brillars in the 2023/24 season.

The winger later joined Heartland, where he played 22 NPFL matches, totalling 1,115 minutes and scoring just three goals.

Though his time there ended in relegation, his move to Rivers United now marks a turning point as he sets his sights on bigger goals.
