The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) Rivers state chapter has expressed its delight at the return of former Super Eagles and Enyimba coach Finidi George to the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) as the new technical adviser of Rivers United.
Finidi George, a respected figure in Nigerian football, penned a two-year deal with the Port Harcourt-based club, and SWAN Chairman Dum Wite wasted no time in welcoming him back, Footballrover reports.
“Today we are also happy that our own Finidi George is back home as a coach. We wish him and the entire technical crew good luck” Dum Wite said.
The SWAN chairman, on behalf of the association, used the opportunity to pledge its support for the new head coach.
Cyril Dum Wite announced the pledge during the contract signing ceremony held on Wednesday at the Real Madrid Conference Hall in Port Harcourt.
“On behalf of SWAN Rivers State Chapter, I pledge that our members will support Rivers United FC through effective publicity. We will also do our job professionally,” he said.
He emphasised the critical role sports writers play in promoting sporting activities.
The SWAN chairman noted that effective publicity and good reporting are the cornerstones of a sports writer’s job.
Dum Wite further used the opportunity to urge sports journalists to uphold a high level of professionalism, ensuring credibility and integrity for their respective media houses.
However, the excitement surrounding Finidi George’s return reached its climax yesterday as he was officially unveiled at a grand ceremony held at the Sharks Stadium.
The event, brimming with music and buzzing with excitement, was presided over by Rivers United FC‘s General Manager, Chief (Dr.) Okey Kpalukwu.
High-profile figures in attendance included the Rivers State Commissioner for Sports, Barrister Christopher Green, and the Special Assistant to the Governor on Youth and Sports, Honourable Norisia Wilfred Pepple.
