Super Eagles captain, William Troost-Ekong, has penned a heartfelt farewell to his Greek club, PAOK Thessaloniki, as he prepares for a new adventure in the Saudi Pro League.

The 30-year-old defender, who was named Player of the Tournament at the 2023 AFCON, had been linked with a move to the Middle East following his impressive performance with Nigeria in Ivory Coast, Footballrover reports.

Despite suffering a season-ending injury in February, Ekong played a vital role in PAOK’s Super League title win.

His contributions on and off the pitch earned him immense respect from fans and teammates.

Ekong has agreed to join Saudi Pro League side Al Kholood on a two-year deal with an option for a third. The move is reportedly worth €1.2 million.

Al Kholood, newly promoted to the Saudi Pro League after finishing third in the country’s second tier, will now look to the experience and leadership of Troost-Ekong as they aim to make their mark in the top flight.

In a touching social media post, Ekong expressed his gratitude to PAOK for the unforgettable memories and experiences he had during his time with the club.

I’ll always cherish the friendships I’ve made and the moments we shared together,” he wrote.

Will Troost-Ekong expressed his gratitude for an amazing year and season in Thessaloniki.

He also expressed his appreciation to the fans for their support through difficult times, saying that Toumba is something special and that he now understands what MONO PAOK means.
