Super Eagles duo – Joe Aribo and Alex Iwobi were on top of their game as Everton secured a second consecutive victory away at Southampton during their Premier League game on Saturday evening.

At St. Mary’s Stadium, the former Rangers midfielder, Aribo grabbed his second goal of the season before Alex Iwobi sealed his performance with yet another assist in the Premier League.

With just seven points from their first seven games, Southampton came into the match having lost three of their last five games and were eager to avenge the back-to-back 1-0 losses to Aston Villa and Wolves.

While Everton entered the match with five straight unbeaten runs in the Premier League. Last time out, they defeated West Ham United to earn their first win of the campaign, and were also desperate to capitalise on that success to keep moving up the standings.

A rush of goals in the second half saw Southampton take the lead through Aribo, but Everton responded with goals from Coady and McNeil to win the game 2-1 despite Frank Lampard’s team dominating the first half without finding a breakthrough.

Everton changed the course of the game despite Southampton having three consecutive chances that were denied by Everton before breaking fast.

Iwobi’s ambitious pass to the back post at the end of the move landed at McNeil’s feet, and the Englishman confidently finished to make it 2-1.

After that, Everton started to protect their advantage, and despite a few tense moments, they were able to pull off a crucially significant victory away from home. Now ranked tenth in the Premier League, Southampton has dropped to sixteenth.

Next up for Southampton is a trip to Manchester City on Saturday in the afternoon, while the following night, Everton will host Manchester United at Goodison Park.
