The Lions of Teranga – Senegal has kicked off their title defence with a convincing victory over Gambia in their first game of the 2023 AFCON.
In a spectacular display at the Charles Konan Banny Stadium in Yamoussoukro, Cote d’Ivoire, Senegal’s Teranga Lions dominated Gambia with a resounding 3-0 victory during the opening match of AFCON 2023 Group C, Footballrover reports.
The reigning champions of AFCON 2021, Senegal, showcased their prowess early on, securing the first three points of Group C and sending a strong message to their competitors.
The action-packed match witnessed Papa Alassane Gueye of Olympique Marseille score a goal in the first minute of the first half, brilliantly assisted by the talented Sadio Mane.
In the second half, Lamine Camara, a formidable presence from Ligue 1 side Metz, further solidified Senegal’s lead by netting goals in the 53rd and 86th minutes.
This dynamic performance sealed a convincing 3-0 victory for Senegal over Gambia.

Adding to the intensity of the match, Gambian midfielder Ebou Adams received a red card from the centre referee just eight minutes into the first-half extra time, highlighting the competitive nature of the encounter.
