It was their star player, Mohamed Salah, who came to the rescue with a decisive penalty goal against Mozambique’s Os Mambas in the Round 1 Group B match, Footballrover reports.
The drama unfolded when FC Nantes star Mostafa Mohamed won a crucial penalty in the third minute of the second half of extra time.
Mohammed Salah confidently converted, securing a 2-2 draw for Egypt against Mozambique.
Mostafa Mohamed had initially given Egypt an early lead in the second minute of the first half.
Witness Chimolo Quembo, also known as Witi, representing the Portuguese club Nacional, levelled the score for Mozambique at 1-1 in the 55th minute of the second half.
Clesio David Bauque, the star from Gabala FC in Azerbaijan, then increased Mozambique’s goal tally to 2-1 in the 58th minute.
This 2-2 draw marks the second consecutive draw since the kick-off of the continental football championship in Abidjan.
