Galatasaray boss Okan Buruk has stirred debate by naming Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen as the top forward in Europe.
Buruk’s remarks came during a recent interview, where he put Osimhen ahead of the likes of Erling Haaland, despite the Norwegian’s ongoing success with Manchester City, Footballrover reports.
With both players consistently lighting up the football scene, what makes Buruk’s choice so compelling?
While Haaland has continued his impressive run with 15 goals in 16 appearances for City, Osimhen has been no less potent.
Victor Osimhen: Top forward in Europe right now
With 8 goals in just 9 matches, the Nigerian forward has been instrumental in Galatasaray’s attacking play with his clinical finishing.
Yet, Buruk’s decision to lift Osimhen to this lofty position comes at a time when Manchester City has faced some recent struggles, a factor the Galatasaray manager did not overlook.
Buruk praised Haaland for his remarkable ability but emphasised that Osimhen’s form, especially his performances for both club and country, have elevated him above the Norwegian striker at this moment.
“There are not many elite strikers in Europe. Haaland may come to mind first, but since Manchester City have lost in recent weeks, I would say Osimhen is the best right now,” Buruk said.
Osimhen’s recent form for Galatasaray in the Turkish Super Lig continues to seal his reputation as one of the continent’s finest strikers.
His performances have seen him turn heads, with a growing recognition of his ability to rival Europe’s elite.
The 25-year-old striker is expected to return to Galatasaray after his recent international exploits with the Super Eagles, where he helped secure Nigeria’s place in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
