Super Eagles forward Samuel Chukwueze soared high to score a brilliant header, igniting AC Milan’s hopes of salvaging a crucial point.
However, a chaotic finale at the San Siro saw the Rossoneri collapse to a dramatic 2-1 defeat against Lazio, leaving their European ambitions in jeopardy, Footballrover reports.
AC Milan crumble to Lazio after late strike
Lazio entered the clash eyeing a return to the Serie A top four, while Milan, desperate to recover from a recent slump, sought redemption.
The visitors started stronger, with Boulaye Dia testing Mike Maignan early on. Gustav Isaksen also went close before Lazio’s relentless pressure paid off.
A fast counter saw Adam Marušić force a save from Maignan, but Mattia Zaccagni pounced on the rebound to give Lazio the lead.
Milan responded with urgency, forcing Ivan Provedel into action. However, their situation worsened after Strahinja Pavlović was shown a straight red card for bringing down Isaksen, leaving them with a mountain to climb.
Samuel Chukwueze’s magic header, but Lazio have the last word
Despite being a man down, Milan kept pushing. Their persistence paid off when Chukwueze met Rafael Leão’s cross with a powerful header, leveling the score in style.
With momentum on their side, the Rossoneri pressed for a winner, but disaster struck in stoppage time.
Maignan’s challenge on Isaksen resulted in a penalty, and Pedro stepped up to seal a heartbreaking defeat for Milan.
Lazio’s dramatic victory sees them leapfrog Juventus into fourth, intensifying the battle for UEFA Champions League qualification.
Meanwhile, AC Milan have now suffered three consecutive league defeats for the first time since February 2023, increasing pressure on manager Sergio Conceição.
