On Saturday evening, David Okereke grabbed his 7th Serie A goal of the season as Venezia held AS Roma to a hard-fought draw.
The 24-year-old netted the opening goal at the Stadio Olimpico, but it wasn’t enough as Jose Morinho’s team rallied from behind to earn a 1-1 draw against the relegation-threatened club.
Venezia got off to a fast start, taking the lead less than a minute into the game through David Okereke, who scored with a wonderful header from the center of the box to the bottom left corner.
The attacker drew away from the defenders and powered in Mattia Aramu’s cross with a superb header.
After a VAR ruling, Sofian Kiyine was sent out of the game after picking up a senseless straight red for a violent conduct, reducing Venezia to 10 men.
Roma began to dominate the ball after we went down to 10 men. It wonβt be easy to keep them at bay the rest of the way, but weβve fought really hard so far and clearly want this one.

Pellegrini hit the crossbar twice in pursuit of a goal, but the visitors held on to their lead until halftime, and it only took Roma 76 minutes to equalize through Eldor Shomurodov, who bounced on a loose ball.
Venezia goalie – MΓ€enpÀÀ came off his line to make a big save on Pellegrini’s attempt but Shomurodov drives in the loose ball.
Roma should have taken the lead late in the game, but they only struck the crossbar twice.
The result leaves Venezia at the bottom of the Serie A standings with 26 points while AS Roma, with 60 points, are waiting for Foirentina to drop points to know their fate in UEFA Conference League spot.
On Sunday, May 22nd, Venezia will host Cagliari in their final game of the season at the Pier Luigi Penzo Stadium, while Roma will seek to host Torino in the hopes of securing Europa Conference League place.
The results are finally coming just a little too late, but signal hope for the future.
