The Super Eagles forward stunned their visitors late in the game to grab his 15th league goal of the season in Union Berlin’s home victory over Bochum on Saturday afternoon.
The 24-year-old scored a brace and the game-winning goal to inspire Union Berlin to a 3-2 win over Bochum as they took all three points home.
Grischa Promel opened the scoring for the hosts just five minutes into the contest, in what appears to be his farewell game for the club.
Awoniyi then extended the advantage with a fantastic penalty kick 20 minutes later.
Six minutes into the second half, the Nigerian attacker nearly doubled his tally, but his attempt from the left side of the six yard box missed the target by an inch.
Before Simon Zoller scored a fantastic header four minutes later to get his team back into the game.
Union Berlin pressed for a third goal, only to be leveled with their visitors 79 minutes later by Eduard Löwen, who made the score 2-2.
In the 88th minute, Taiwo Awoniyi scored his 20th goal of the season in all competitions, which proved to be the game-winner.
The host team held on to win 3-2 at the Stadion An der Alten Försterei as the final whistle confirmed the Urs Fischer side earned all three points.
