Super Eagles defender Ola Aina has set his sights on winning a major trophy with Nigeria’s national team, emphasising that the current squad possesses the talent and determination to achieve success.
The Nottingham Forest star revealed his ambitions during an interview with Dangolo TV.
As part of the team preparing for a crucial Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2025 qualifier against Libya, the full-back expressed confidence in the Super Eagles’ potential to deliver silverware, Footballrover reports.
Recall that the Eagles narrowly missed out on victory at the last AFCON, losing 2-1 to Côte d’Ivoire in the final under coach José Peseiro.
This setback will clearly fuel Aina’s determination to bring home a trophy.
The Eagles have an opportunity to make amends but will have to face Libya first at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo as they look to maintain their undefeated run in Group D of the AFCON qualifiers.
“It’s a privilege to play for the Super Eagles. It’s a dream for a lot of Nigerians. To be selected is a privilege, so I’m always happy.
“I want to win a trophy with the national team, whatever trophy, World Cup or Africa Cup of Nations. I think winning a trophy with the Super Eagles and with this team that we have now will be the best thing.”
Aina and Super Eagles poised for success against Libya
The Super Eagles currently lead Group D with four points, boasting an impressive defensive record as the only team in the group yet to concede a goal.
A pair of victories against Libya in their upcoming doubleheader could secure Nigeria’s spot at the tournament in Morocco next year.
Nigeria will be aiming for a fifth consecutive win over Libya, having dominated their past four encounters, including two convincing victories during the 2018 AFCON qualifiers.
Friday’s match will provide an opportunity for Aina and his teammates to edge closer to their qualification goal and strengthen their pursuit of a long-awaited trophy.
