Fulham head coach Marco Silva has praised the crucial roles played by Alex Iwobi and Calvin Bassey in securing a remarkable 2-1 victory over Manchester United at Old Trafford, marking Fulham’s first away win at the venue since 2003.
At the Theatre of Dreams, the Nigerian nightmare for United arose, with Bassey leading the charge and Iwobi’s magic sealing the win, Footballrover reports.
The Super Eagles star, fresh from their Africa Cup of Nations exploits, was one of Silva’s picks in the starting lineup for the historic clash.
And they repaid his faith in style by scoring crucial goals in the encounter. While Bassey fired home the opener, Alex Iwobi bagged a dramatic winner in stoppage time.
Bassey’s Impact:
Bassey, making his mark with a powerful right-footed strike in the 65th minute, notched his maiden goal for Fulham since joining from Ajax last summer.
Iwobi’s Brilliance:
Iwobi sealed the victory with a clinical finish deep into stoppage time, after missing several opportunities to do so earlier.

Silva’s Comments:
Speaking to BeINSports, Coach Silva expressed his delight in seeing Bassey’s breakthrough goal and commended both players for their performances, affirming their integral roles in Fulham’s playing style and success.
“Of course, it’s always an important moment to score your first goal. But not just him this afternoon. The two players (Bassey and Iwobi) that were at the Africa Cup of Nations, and that we miss them,” he said.
Coach’s Appreciation:
The manager, however, emphasised the significance of Iwobi and Bassey’s contributions, acknowledging their absence during the Africa Cup of Nations and highlighting their decisive impact upon their return.
“They were decisive in terms of the goal. It just shows how they are important for us in the way I want to play, in our way. It’s really nice to see both scoring goals and helping us win,” he added.
This win cements Fulham’s 12th-place position in the Premier League table, a remarkable achievement for the club.
