NPFL Punishes Kwara United with Massive Fines and Point Deductions After Assault on Rivers United

Kwara United has been hit with severe sanctions by the NPFL after serious security lapses and violent incidents involving their supporters during their Matchday 22 fixture on February 18, 2026, at the State Stadium in Ilorin.

The club now faces multiple fines, point deductions, and a relocation of home matches as part of the disciplinary measures, Footballrover reports.

Kwara United Fined Millions Over Security and Fan Misconduct

The NPFL charged the Harmony boys for failing to provide adequate security, which allowed unauthorised individuals to enter restricted areas during the match.

In addition, the club did not ensure proper conduct from their supporters, leading to harassment and injuries to match officials and Rivers United staff.

These actions have brought the club under serious scrutiny from the league’s governing body.

The league imposed fines totaling N9 million on Kwara United, broken down as follows: N3 million for poor security and fan conduct, N3 million for assault and unsporting behavior, and N3 million for holding officials hostage and compensatory damages.

Point Deductions and Home Ground Relocation

Beyond financial penalties, the Ilorin boys will also have three points and three goals deducted from their accrued totals due to assaults on match officials.

The club is required to play their remaining home fixtures at the MKO Abiola Sports Arena in Abeokuta.

The NPFL has instructed Kwara United to identify and provide evidence for the supporters involved in the attacks for arrest and prosecution.
