Bayelsa United have taken to their social media platform to issue a heartfelt apology to their loyal fans following their latest setback, marking yet another disappointing and undesirable record in the NPFL.
The team, led by Coach Meremu Okara, faced a narrow defeat against Niger Tornadoes on Saturday, handing them their second consecutive loss in the Nigeria Premier League, Footballrover reports.
At the Samson Siasia Stadium, the visiting team, Ikon Allah Boys, secured a 1-0 victory over Bayelsa United, with Ikechukwu Nwani’s second-half strike sealing the deal and earning the visitors maximum points.
This defeat means Bayelsa United have garnered yet another unwanted record in the league as they became the first team this season to lose four home matches in the NPFL.
History shows that the last three teams to suffer such a fate were relegated: Nasarawa United and El-Kanemi Warriors in the 2022-2023 season, and MFM FC in the 2021-2022 season.
Looking ahead, Bayelsa United redirected their focus to their upcoming clash with Kwara United on Wednesday, expressing sincere regret for their performance and promising to bounce back swiftly.
“Our attention now shifts to Kwara United on Wednesday; we sincerely apologise for the performance today and hope to bounce back soon,” the club wrote on their X Page (formerly Twitter).Β
On the other hand, the Niger Tornadoes’ narrow victory over Bayelsa United marked a historic milestone as the first away win between the two sides in NPFL encounters.
Majin Mohammed, the head coach of the Minna Boys, praised his team’s remarkable performance, emphasising the importance of overcoming home setbacks by putting up a strong fight.
Following their triumph,Β Niger Tornadoes have exited the relegation zone, climbing to 16th place, level on points with the Prosperity Boy in 15th place.
This victory will now boost their morale ahead of their home game with Sporting Lagos on Wednesday.
